Experience

After receiving my bachelor's degree from Occidental College, I jumped into the world of teaching because I love helping students with mathematics. I have been a math teacher for over a decade, primarily as a high school math teacher in New York City. I also have a Certification as a TI-83 and TI-84 Trainer. I have earned sixty credits in both education and mathematics since receiving my undergraduate degree, which is the equivalent of a master's degree in math education. When I worked as a high school teacher, I taught a variety of mathematics classes. I am confident that I can work with students at any level of experience. One of my primary methods for working with students is to have them write the equation or problem in their own words. I call this method "Think it, Write it, Do it." This is a bit like having the students write their own word problems, but because they must reason through the information, they are able to find a point of reference on which to base their understanding of the concepts, leading to much fuller comprehension. I love to help students become more confident in their math skills, both with a graphing calculator and without. Regardless of their current level of math proficiency, I am able to help all students improve.
